Text of the Mezuzah scroll (Deuteronomy 6: 4‑9, and 11: 13-21)

Because the mezuzah klaf is rolled up in the mezuzah case, one never sees the text. Therefore, I made this linocut to display the text in the house in addition to the properly affixed mezuzot (it does not replace a mezuzah!). I decorated the linocut with the entrance to my grandparents house.

Hand-printed linocut.  Edition of 18

A mezuzah is a parchment scroll – called a klaf – contained in a decorative mezuzah case and affixed to the doorpost of Jewish homes. The klaf is inscribed with the verses from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21 starting with the Shema Yisrael prayer “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our G¨d, the Lord is One”. The text must be hand written by a kosher scribe.
